The subjective compulsion might be Netanyahu’s need to keep a war going to stay on in power, but the objective result is to drive home that might is right, and that might is right now with the US-led
The Iranian regime is despotic and extremely cruel to its people and has no business running a vast and diverse nation. Most ME nations are dictatorships and theocracies, but few oppress women and opposition figures as cruelly as this regime does.
And not withstanding earlier cooperation I’m not sure if they’ll be sympathetic to India’s interests as opposed to say, Pakistan, given its fundamentalist nature.
It is a choice with bad outcomes either way. Our government can only choose the less bad one in the current circumstances, wouldn’t you say?
Undoubtedly, we should cheer, if the Iranian people were to overthrow the theocratic regime. But what is happening right now is the West using its force of arms to put down a nation that stands up against its unqualified domination in the region.
India had the Emergency. Should we have welcomed our liberation by, say, an American armed intervention?
Force underpins the global order. Israel has been killing tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians in the name of punishing the Hamas. It has thrown out UN aid distributers, and is now starving Gazans into leaving the land. It is the same principle that might is right that is at work in Iran, too. If might is right, and is globally accepted as the right norm, why would China not exercise its superior might against India?
But if bigotry is the core, no other interest would really matter!
