The article is as informative and interesting for ordinary persons like me as for a domain specialist or top mandarins dealing the subject. The insight into the subject is certainly quite deep. So far, India seems to be several miles behind in attracting global chip-makers to invest in the country. As noted in the article, the subsidy offered by Indian government for setting up fabs is far less than US and Germany have offered. This is perhaps one of the primary reasons these countries have taken a lead. As argued in the piece, it makes immense sense to support local start-ups for design and manufacturing of semiconductor. This will go a long way in establishing India as a leader in chip-making and save billions of dollars of valuable forex.
