Dissecting the liberal dilemma over the hijab The article is free to read
Dear Women's Upliftment Editor,
Honest, most thought provoking emancipatory revolutionary opinion!!
Most appropriate, encouraging Muslim men & our societies to understand & act with free spirits in a democratic country, India.
In the elucidation, relevant contextual examples of the U.S.A.'s American Declaration of Independence & Late President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation is noteworthy. The opinion further elaborates on the necessity of how actual equality & actual freedom would make a difference to the lives of Muslim women. Same as the 'Black Lives Matter' fight in the U.S.A. Sadly, Indian society is yet to explore the possibility of 'emancipation of the mind for Muslim girls/women'.
So, the issue of wearing hijab or not stands as it is.
The conclusion asserts most shameful practices signalling fears & inadequacies, prejudice & discriminations' with lost dignity surrounding the lives of Muslim girls/women under BJP's rule. Undeniably & unjustifiably an attack on democracy.
Also, the truth untold & unexplained by Muslim men-folks is that they didn't take adequate steps to make Muslim women men's equal. The opinion revolves around the central character of 'emancipation of Muslim women & how it is to be done' taking a cue from the examples quoted by you.
I understand that most of the Muslim families in India, Muslim women breed with dominant males that establish their freedom of choice & rights over women's rights & freedom of choice. The question is how many Muslim men talk about women's property rights & freedom of choice in decision-making in the society & within their families? It is the responsibility of both Muslim men & women to maintain each of the spheres of life & ensure all Muslim women live a balanced productive & healthy lifestyle - Decisions in making careers, in health, relationships & hobbies.
Same as your writings make the highest & wisest choices, & decisions offering prudent suggestions to the Modi's Government & other stakeholders, I hope all educated women understand emancipation of the low from subordination of the high.
During election time, the hijab row takes away joy, peace, respect & love from within the souls of women. I wish & hope all Indian educated men including the Hindutva brigade & intelligentsia understand this.
I understand contextual intelligence requires Muslim women to transcend all social, religious & ethnic barriers, make leadership/decision-making in-roads in households & exercise your choice in all spheres of life not what Muslim men the dominant force in most of the families dictate, teach you as a child and groom you likewise.
Thank you for this very insightful, well-timed, candid freedom of expression making a compelling & convincing read, and throwing it open for discourse in Muslim & our societies in the country.
